ACCIONA has reached a milestone of 14 million man-hours without lost-time injuries (LTI) at the Al Khobar 2 SWRO desalination plant, situated in Saudi Arabia

The company said that this achievement underscores the firm's dedication to safety management and the proactive deployment of effective measures across the project. It also signifies the collaborative efforts of all stakeholders, including subcontractors and their personnel, who have prioritised safety alongside project execution throughout the works, ACCIONA added.

Zero harm policy

To mark this achievement, ACCIONA arranged an event that brought together all project employees, consultants, and end-user representatives.

During the gathering, Jesús Corral, Project Director, reiterated the company's commitment to upholding the highest safety standards and completing the project on schedule, with zero LTIs as the overarching goal. He affirmed their aim for the overall project completion with a zero LTI index.

Chan Zeb, ACCIONA's Al Khobar 2 HSE manager, expressed pride in the accomplishment, attributing it to ACCIONA’s continuous commitment to the HSE goal of "Zero Harm" through rigorous strategies, systems, and safe processes. Zeb emphasised the management's belief in nurturing a Health & Safety culture and advocating for safe practices to ensure the well-being of all individuals involved in the project. Furthermore, the team prioritises environmental values and upholds the project's sustainability at the highest level.

The Al Khobar 2 SWRO desalination plant, located in Khobar on the east coast of Saudi Arabia, approximately 400 km from Riyadh, will boast a daily capacity of more than 600,000 m³ upon completion. This makes it one of the largest in the country and the largest RO plant awarded under the EPC scheme in a single shot in KSA. Once operational, it will cater to the needs of 3 million inhabitants in the area.
