Qatar to launch new National Health Strategy in two weeks

The new Qatar National Health Strategy 2017-2022, with special focus on workers’ wellbeing, will be launched on 19 June 2016

According to director of public health at the Ministry Dr Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad Al Thani, the new strategy aims at reducing accidents related to occupational health and safety by five to 10 per cent. The ministry also plans to decrease accidents by three per cent each year for next six years.

The minister added that almost 90 per cent of the goals of public health and occupational health and safety of National Health Strategy 2011-2016 have been accomplished.

“We made remarkable achievements in several health sectors. Road accidents have decreased by 30 per cent last year and according to a preliminarily report, road accidents have come down by 30 per cent so far this year. Around 50 per cent reduction in road accident in two years is a remarkable achievement.

Al Thani added that in the road safety area, Doha has surpassed a few developed countries and pointed out that the accident rate in Qatar is lower than countries such as USA in terms of accidents per vehicle.

Al Thani was speaking on the sidelines of an awareness programme held at the Medical Commission to mark the World Day for Safety and Health at Work recently.
