Intertek has won a contract to provide technical inspection services for Iraq’s South Oil Company (SOC)
The deal represents the first time that the state-owned Iraqi company, which is responsible for all the oil and gas projects in the south of the country, has appointed a third party to provide inspection services for its projects, which are which are contracted out to various oil and gas companies.
Under the terms of the deal, London-based multinational Intertek will inspect components and materials used by the SOC-managed companies, with the aim of maintaining safety, as well as increasing quality across the value chain.
The inspections will take place at factories and in Intertek laboratories around the world, to ensure that both the production processes and materials used comply with the relevant standards and specifications.
Hussain Al-Atrakchi, Intertek’s vice president of industry services, Middle East, North Africa and West Asia, said, “Intertek’s global coverage across markets and functions, combined with laboratory expertise, provides the South Oil Company with the required support needed throughout the value chain.”
Intertek specialises in inspection, product testing and certification services, with a network of more than 1,000 laboratories and offices and 38,000 employees worldwide.
