Fläkt Woods to showcase fire safety and smoke control solutions at Firex 2017

Fire Safety

Fläkt Woods, a leading manufacturer of ventilation and air movement products, is set to highlight the key role played by mechanical Smoke Shaft Vents and Jet Thrust Fan systems in fire safety at this year’s Firex exhibition

The Fläkt Woods team will demonstrate how its standardised modular mechanical smoke shaft ventilation system can protect common means of escape in tall buildings. Visiting contractors will be able to find out from the team how they can join the company’s smoke shaft vent Approved Installer Network.

Ross Barritt-Mehta, business development manager for fire safety at Fläkt Woods, says: “In high-rise properties such as hotels, offices and apartment blocks, smoke shafts are now the most common smoke control measure used in tall buildings. But there is still an air of mystery surrounding the design and application of mechanically ventilated smoke shafts. We want to demystify this technology using our years of experience and data, and show that these ventilation systems can actually be very straight forward and delivered in a standardised way – both to specifiers and contractors.”

Fläkt Woods’ Smoke Shaft Vent incorporates energy efficient, ErP compliant, extract fans, mounted on a skid frame and connected to the riser to extract smoke. The Smoke Shaft Vent system can be customised to meet the ventilation and sizing requirements of individual buildings. It comes ready to fit into position on site in modular, preassembled components. The fans, ducting and controls are mounted on a fabricated skid for a single lift and simplified installation. A scale model of the fan skid will be on display on Fläkt Woods’ stand at Firex.

In addition, the company will be showcasing how its JTv range of Jet Thrust Fan solutions effectively control smoke in enclosed car parks in the event of a fire. Its experts will be on hand to discuss the design, installation and operation of these systems.

The company will exhibit at the show for the first time on stand G30, from the 20th – 22nd June at Excel in London.
