The boss of a Bahraini petrochemical company has been recognised for his contribution to health and safety
Dr. Abdulrahman Jawahery, president of Gulf Petrochemical Industries Co (GPIC) was awarded the Archangel Award by the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA).
Dr. Jawahery, hailed a “true global ambassador for health and safety”, was presented with the award at the Guardian Angel Awards ceremony at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole this week.
The award – the highest accolade at the event – was given in recognition of Dr. Jawahery’s commitment to health, safety and sustainability in his job as GPIC president, as well as in his role as an MP, where he helped to push through radical changes in health and safety legislation.
The award was presented by RoSPA president Lord McKenzie of Luton, and Tom Mullarkey, RoSPA chief executive.
“Dr. Jawahery’s passion for health, safety and sustainability is truly remarkable,” said Mullarkey. “The fact that he has dedicated so much of his working career and selflessly given up his own time to making a difference - not only to his employees’ lives but also that of their families - says a lot about his character and how highly respected he is in his field.”
UK charity RoSPA established the Guardian Angel Awards as a way of shining a light on individuals whose commitment to safety and accident prevention is displayed through personal initiative, diligence and enthusiasm.
