Saudi Arabia work with South Korea to improve nuclear safety

Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) sent around 40 technical personnel to South Korea for training in nuclear safety, safety regulations and technical know-home

A delegation from the King Abdullah City for Atomic and Renewable Energy (KACARE), who are based in Riyadh, visited Seoul, South Korea, to discuss how to expand further cooperation between the two nations in the nuclear field. 

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the aim to promote this cooperation between South Korea's Nuclear Safety and Security Commission (NSSC) and Saudi's KACARE. The MoU was signed by NSSC chairman Kim Yong Hwan and KA-CARE vice president Waleed bin Husain Abulfaraj on 22 November at KACARE's headquarters in Riyadh. 

“This important training programme has been organised within the framework of the memorandum of understanding (MoU) recently signed between KACARE and South Korea’s NSSC,” said Korean Ambassador Kwon Pyung-oh. He pointed out that “the Saudi personnel will undergo training for two to three years at the NSSC facilities.”

KACARE said, "The MOU aims at exchanging experiences and practices in the areas of regulating nuclear safety, safeguards and physical protection, radiation protection and relevant research, as well as development in a manner to serve atomic energy programs in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia."
