25434966497 bb12ae7d46 zUnder the theme ‘5aday’, the Health Promotion Department at the Supreme Council for Family Affairs in Sharjah (SCFA) launched the sixth edition of the Health & Tourism campaign, which will run throughout August

The campaign aims at enhancing cooperation and community involvement among various government institutions.

This year’s edition will focus on promoting various tourist sites in and around Sharjah, raising community awareness of healthy lifestyles during their sightseeing tours, raising awareness of healthy food options in multiple tourist sites, and the services provided to encourage the adoption of healthy lifestyles.

Highlighting the Tourist Sites

Iman Rashid Saif said, “The Health & Tourism campaign, organised for the sixth year in a row, aims to raise health awareness among Sharjah citizens, residents and tourists and shed light on the emirate’s unique and attractive tourist destinations.”

Saif pointed out that the campaign has become one of the most important campaigns for awareness and culture. Its importance lies in being the first online campaign in the world that focuses on both health awareness and promotion of tourism.

“This year’s theme comes in line with the World Health Organization’s (WHO’s) recommendations in terms of eating at least 400 gm, or five portions, of fruit and vegetables per day to reduce enormous health risks, such as heart disease, stroke and some types of cancer,” she added.

“The campaign will be using social media platforms and local media to ensure easy access to all segments of society. Also, the campaign is targeting the visitors to tourist sites, through educational workshops, free checkups, recreational shows, various contests with valuable prizes, and other activities,” she noted.

Supporting and promoting healthy lifestyles

Maysoon Al Hosani, director of the Media Department at the Sharjah Trade and Tourism Development Authority (SCTDA), praised the Health Promotion Department’s role in launching this initiative, which reflects its significant interest in educating tourists and visitors about the most important practices.

“The SCTDA is keen to patron and sponsor this event, based on its belief in the importance of supporting and promoting the adoption of a healthy lifestyle in various tourist sites,” she stated.

Serving the community

The Sharjah Cooperative Society also valued the role played by the Health Promotion Department in launching the eighth edition of the campaign, which aims to raise awareness of the importance of consuming five daily portions of vegetables and fruits. The campaign would eventually leave a positive impact on individuals’ health and reduce health risks and problems, the society highlighted.

It added that its participation in the campaign reflects its keenness to serve the community. “We will promote the campaign through our social media platforms, in addition to our 33 branches in the emirate, which are visited by a huge number of shoppers every day. We will also post awareness posters in vegetables and fruits sections, which show the shoppers the nutritional benefits of having enough portion of vegetables and fruits,” the society underlined.
